In an IT project, some steps are visible, like a demo, a delivery, or a go-live.
Others happen in the background. They aren’t part of the deliverables, but they still help the project run smoothly.
A blockage in development
During the development of a mobile application for inventory management and ticket tracking, our team ran into a technical issue that was preventing some features from being used.
By the end of the day, investigations were paused so everyone could back home. The problem wasn’t solved, and there were still several hypotheses to check.
A few hours later, the discussions resumed remotely. Team members shared new analysis leads, compared their observations, and carried out additional tests. The results were shared as they came in so that everyone could continue their investigations based on the information already gathered.
The application manager stayed available throughout these exchanges to coordinate the analyses and help with decision-making if needed.
As the investigations went on, several hypotheses were ruled out until the cause of the malfunction was identified. The fix was then implemented, and the development work could get back on track.
What’s happening in the background.
This kind of situation is a normal part of how a software project unfolds. Some issues get resolved quickly, while others require more analysis, testing, and coordination.
Some of this work remains behind the scenes once the project is finished. Yet, it’s often during these phases that analysis reports, tests, technical discussions, and decisions are made that help the project move forward.
